Thanks Wink.. I hate to see anyone go out of business like this, but in the end it does serve as a valuable learning experience and hopefully someone will take something positive away from it..

Wow! What a wonderful article. I was a customer of the bench that went broke because Bella went broke. It did temporarily hurt me, but I was fortunate enough to find another excellent bench to replace them.

Sad what not watching the details can do to some very good people! Thank you for this very educational post!

At Beanstalk we offer keyphrase exclusivity for the primary phrases, but secondaries are game. Now if the client doesn't go on maintenance after then the term is fair game.

Here are my thoughts on the topic Andy. No one complains about non-competes when they run a tv commercial, or radio advert, or even put up billboards. And I put SEO, as a whole, in the same category as all of those things. It is marketing. And being a specialist in a vertical marketing segment makes you better at that vertical.

We work with a marketing company in the jewelry trade. These guys develop print ads and do direct mailing for any jeweler that will hire them. He doesn't promise to get the more business or make more money. He promises to work as hard as he can at driving potential customers to the store. Nothing more. And that is what we should be promising as well.

If you put the same effort in to every project then it's up to Google to decide which site ranks higher than the other, not us. We don't sell rankings, we sell marketing designed to improve those rankings with no promise of a specific number.
